Blood Valley Days

Staggering down a sun-baked dusty road
Skin all cracked and peeling and lips as white as snow
A fading fatal beauty, she had vultures in her skies
Asked for food and water, she said she'd stay a while

What ever happened to our happiness?
It woke up screamin' and ran away
All that's left are cattle bones and heartaches
And languid, whiskey-soaked Blood Valley days

Her eyes were veiled and so they would remain
Smoky - vaguely distant - with an uneasiness I could not explain
She raised her glass of bourbon, proposed a little toast:
"To my ever-lovin' daddy, man, it's you I dig the most!"

What ever happened to our happiness?
It woke up screamin' and ran away
All that's left are cattlebones and heartaches
And languid, whiskey-soaked Blood Valley days

Skeletons and secrets clear to all but me
I found her body swingin' by her neck from the willow tree

What ever happened to our happiness?
It woke up screamin' and ran away
All that's left are cattlebones and heartaches
And languid, whiskey-soaked Blood Valley days
